WebP is an image format (developed by Google) that can display images with a fraction of the file size without loss of quality.
The FATCHIP OXID WebP module checks whether the browser supports the image format. If supported, the images (jpg / jpeg, png, gif) are converted and output with the original file extension, but with the image type "WEBP Image".
The page loading time is significantly reduced, which has a positive effect on the user experience, search engine ranking and conversion rate. Browsers that do not support WEBP are shown the original image (without the "WEBP Image" type).
